Joshua Tree National Park -29 Palms, California-

Hi there!

I thought I would begin this blog with a short introduction to a place that has always been near to my heart: Joshua Tree National Park. For my family, it is a terrific weekend getaway, especially since it is only about two and a half hours from our Southern California home. J.T. Is located in the high desert, about 50 minutes from Palm Springs.

Though deserts are remarkably beautiful in their own unique way, I feel as though you are beginning to wonder... why on earth would I travel to this National Park located in the middle of the desert, much less during the 120degree summer?
There, in the middle of the desert, is something you would never have imagined...
Thousands, upon thousands of rocks, all perfectly piled purely for your enjoyment.
Not only does Joshua Tree National Park offer serene desert beauty, but it also presents the opportunity for  rock scrambling, and rock climbing. In fact, people travel from all over the world to make their way to the tops of these granite slabs.

If you have single-handedly concluded that rock climbing is not for you, and you would prefer to admire the beauty rather that try to conquer it, there are plenty of other things to keep you busy!
1. the abundance of wildlife

2. numerous trails
3. exceptional wildflowers during the spring

One final selling point: who could resist phenomenal sunsets like these?
The best time of year to visit Joshua Tree National Park is during the winter or early spring. You have a much better chance of avoiding the dreaded rattlers since the weather is considerably cooler than in the summer and fall. Additionally, you are not hiking in the intense heat. This was, and continues to be one of my favorite places. I highly encourage you to check it out one weekend!
